Right now you can only use Digest or Basic (there are others), but they are mutually exclusive.  it would be advantageous to support both so superusers can use OS credentials, but help desk personnel do not need to be give OS accounts as they could be managed by the Digest portion.

This is unlikely to be addressed in CUPS since PAM offers similar functionality/configurability. Holding for now for a final decision.
