The CUPS driver for Windows is an extension for the Windows 2000 PostScript driver that is supported by CUPS 1.2 and higher. The driver adds support for the job-billing and page-label options. This driver requires the cupsaddsmb program from CUPS 1.2. Download  ·  Home Page  ·  Listing

The current driver *should* work on Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit). We hope to add support for 64-bit Windows in the future (you'll find driver files in the repository, but we haven't finished the work needed to serve those up via Samba yet) Reply

Has there been any progress on 64-bit drivers and the serving from Samba?  Is there something that needs testing?  This is the last bit I need before migrating my office from XP to Windows 7.  Thanks! Reply

Still no 64bit Cups drivers? I tried these Drivers http://svn.easysw.com/public/windows/trunk/x64/ but it won't work with Win XP/2003 64bit or Win 7/2008 64bit.

Also here https://bugs.launchpad.net/fedora/+bug/482836 they mention it should work but it doesn't.

Thx, Dave Reply

I was able to get the cups driver to work successfully on Windows 7 64-bit; however, the cups6.inf file needs to be modified as per this Microsoft posting: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/install/64inf_reqs.mspx

The relevant lines in cups6.inf (downloaded via svn for the x64 drivers) are changed like thus:

[Manufacturer]

%apple% = Apple,NTamd64.6.0

[Apple.NTamd64.6.0]

"Cups Test Driver v6" = CUPS6.PS

(We're "Decorating" the Manufacturer and Model fields with the 64-bit identifier as per the Microsoft posting)

This fixed the problem I was having where Windows could not find compatible drivers.  Using the x64 drivers and specifying a port via printui.dll (/r http://[cups hostname]:631/printers/[printer name]), I was able to print out a document from a 64-bit Windows 7 installation. Reply

Above didnt work for me. I had to use.

[Manufacturer] "Apple" = Apple,NTamd64

[Apple.NTamd64] "Cups Test Driver v6" = CUPS6.PS Reply
