Artifex has released GPL Ghostscript 8.60, which is is now the Ghostscript recommended for use in Linux distributions.

Now there is a first test version of the merged Ghostscript available. It contains all printer drivers, driver interfaces CUPS, IJS, OPVP, modular X11 driver and all based on the newest Ghostscript core.

Some great news from the Ghostscript developers - they have done away with the AFPL for the leading-edge Ghostscript and are instead distributing it under the GPL!
